History of the Estate

About the Estate

O'Connor Estate was built by Senator Frank O'Connor in 1933 and called it Maryvale Farm.

On his death in 1939, Maryvale Farm was bequeathed to the De La Salle Christian Brothers who, with the Daughters of Wisdom, created Senator O'Connor College School in 1963.

The Christian Brothers lived at O'Connor Estate until 2000 and left the buildings to the Catholic School Board.

A Historic Treasure

O'Connor Estate is an increasingly rare historic treasure in the North York community. Unlike several older buildings which have been moved to other sites, O'Connor Estate sits on its original foundation. O'Connor Estate - built in 1933 - is well preserved. It has beauty and balance.

Guiding Principles in the Conservation of Historic Properties-Architectural Conservation Notes.

  • Respect for Documentary Evidence: Conservation work should be based on historic documentation such as historic photographs, drawings and physical evidence.
  • Respect for Original Location: Site is an integral component of a building. Change in site diminishes heritage value considerably.
  • Respect for Original Fabric: Repair with like materials to return the resource to its prior condition, without altering its integrity.
